Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I register my child for a program?

    Registration is completed online through our website. Simply select the desired program, complete the required information, and submit payment to secure your spot.

  • What "Offering" do I enroll in? (What is a League Age?)

    • You must first determine your player's league age.   For USA Softball, the League Age of a player is determined by the player's age on August 31st of last year.
    • A player can always play up, but not play down.  
    • Example: If a player's league age is 9, the player should enroll in "10u" (League age 10 & Under.) 
  • Do you offer a payment plan?

    Yes, we do.  (Payment Plans will vary by division.)


    At National City Girls Softball, we believe every player deserves the chance to participate. We understand that youth sports can be a financial commitment, and we’re always willing to work with families—don’t hesitate to reach out.

  • Does my child need experience?

    No, we welcome players of all levels of experience and they will learn the game from experienced coaches and staff.

  • How often do you practice?

    Practice will vary depending on the season's overall numbers of participants and the player's divison.   Usually, there is practice 1 to 2 times a week . 

  • How can I contact the organization with questions?

    You can contact us through the email address or contact form listed on our website.  In addition, you can also reach us on any of our social media platforms. Our team will respond at our earliest convience. 

  • What equipment is required?

    MUST-HAVE GEAR 

    Softball glove (Fastpitch)

    • Youth 10" to 10.5" for tee. 
    • Youth 10.5" to 11.5" for 8u/10u  
    • Adult 11.5" to 13" for 12u & up

    Bat (Fastpitch USSSA 1.20 BPF Cert.)  

    Recommended Sizes by Age & Development. 

    A "drop"  is length (in) minus weight (oz) Ex: 28" -10 drop is 18oz 

    • Ages 4-6: 24-28 inch / -12 to -13.5 drop
    • Ages 7-11: 28-31 inch / -11 to -12 drop
    • Ages 12-14: 31-33 inch / -10 to -11 drop
    • Ages 15+: 32-34 inch / -8 to -10

    Softball Batting Helmat

    • Must have a face guard. (Never buy a helmet to "Grow Into")

    Fielder's Mask

    • HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for infielders for safety.

    Cleats

    • Tee(6u), 8u, 10u, and 12u must have rubber cleats.
    • 14u and 18u must have metal cleats. 

    Equipment Bag

    • Essential for carrying gear.

    Softball Pants

    • Always good to have a pair to practice, but also coordinate with your player's coach for team's uniform colors.

    OPTIONAL GEAR

    Batting Gloves

    • Provide better grip and reduce sting.

    Sliding Shorts

    • Worn under pants to protect thights and hips when sliding.
  • Are volunteers or coaches needed?

    Our programs rely on volunteer coaches and helpers. If you’re interested in volunteering, you can indicate your interest during registration or contact us directly.

  • As a manager and how many players can I bring for a team?

    For 18u: 

    • A maximum of 12 Players.

    For 14u and below : 

    • A maximum of 8 Players.  
    • The rest of the team will be drafted after player assessments.
  • Are games played on weekends? How about Holidays?

    • Games are played Monday thru Saturday.
    • We do not play on US/CA recongnized holidays.


  • How will I receive updates and announcements?

    Our primary communication is through our social media.  But all updates are sent via email and posted on the website. Please ensure your contact information is accurate so you don’t miss important communications.

  • How are coaches trained or screened?

    Coaches are required to complete background checks and trainings based on NCGS policies and sport requirements.


    Please understand that coaches are vouleenteers.  Some are experienced and some are coaching for the first time.  As a league, we expect our experienced coaches to be encourging and to share their knowledge to those new to Softball.  


    It's not just players that grow, but coaches too.
